Real Patient Stories

The following are just a small sample of the many blood cancer patients that have received financial support from the LLBF at our Partner Hospitals.

Per HIPAA regulations all names and identifying information has been removed

33-year-old man with Lymphoma found himself homeless and needing to rent a room. With the support of the LLBF, we were able to pay the cost of one month’s rent until he found stable housing.

62-year-old was prescribed an expensive oral chemotherapy drug. His immediate response when he found out the cost was, “I am going to die.” Thanks to LLBF, this medication is now being covered!

84-year-old gentleman had outstanding medical bills piling up during cancer treatment. The LLBF was able to pay the outstanding balance and the patient no longer has any outstanding bills!

83 year woman with blood cancer could not afford a wig after she lost her hair during chemotherapy. The hospital worked directly with a wig shop and used LLBF funds to pay for a wig for this wonderful woman.

51-year-old with metastatic disease woke up to a cold house in January, unable to afford the utility during their blood cancer treatment. LLBF funds were secured to pay for an oil delivery to keep the patient warm.

18-year-old patient was unable to afford his oral chemotherapy. Due to the drug being generic, there is no drug manufacturer program to support free medication. The LLBF stepped in and covered the cost.

38-year-old single female with chronic myeloid leukemia.  She requires nearly weekly blood transfusions and has been living for several years at a local mote with 2 teen daughters. LLBF has stepped up to help with transportation costs.

70-year-old widow who traveled four hours for her blood cancer treatment. The LLBF made it possible for her children to stay close to the hospital to be with their mother during treatment.
